Clothing

Feeling comfortable in what you are wearing can make all the difference. It doesn't matter the make or brand, what does matter is that what you are wearing to a workout allows you to move freely, feels comfortable and suitable. For women, a good sports bra is essential to protect breast tissue - the type of bra depends on your chosen workout activity. For those who feel body conscious and want to avoid showing off more than they’d like when in certain positions then looking at the rise of gym bodysuits could be what you are looking for.

Pick an exercise you want to try

You have a much better chance of sticking to exercise if you are doing a workout you enjoy. This is different for everyone, from a fun and energetic Zumba class to a slower, more focused and relaxed yoga or pilates class. It may even be worth trying a few different types of workout classes or pieces of equipment at the gym to find what you enjoy to help you stay on track.

Don't go alone

It is a proven fact that having a workout partner can help you stay more motivated for longer. Having someone to be your own personal cheerleader and push you when you need it gives you a huge amount of moral support. Make friends with the gym staff if you don't have a workout partner and do what you can to make yourself feel more comfortable in your surroundings.

Having moral support can be underrated at times. Having people to help support you and guide you who you feel at ease with can make all the difference to your workout goals and achievements.

Ask for low traffic times

Most gym staff will know of their busiest and quietest times. Ask the reception staff or the trainers when the quietest times are so you can go without worrying about there being too many people around. This will allow you space to get into your workout and build your confidence, without an audience.

Hire a personal trainer

If you feel like you need extra assistance with your workouts or you have no idea what you need to be doing or how to do it then a personal trainer may be the answer. A personal trainer can work with you to develop a training program that helps you to hit your goals and works the parts of your body that you want to focus on. You can also learn the correct techniques, posture and avoid injury too.
