For many of us, the COVID-19 pandemic has turned everyday routines upside down. While most of the changes are inconvenient and economically challenging, not all of them have a negative impact. In fact, some of them have the potential to improve our lives significantly—both now and well after the pandemic is over. Kalindi Yoga values health and wellness above all. Here are six changes to consider incorporating into your routine in this new era.

1. Making Home Improvements

What better time than now to make all those home improvements you’ve been putting off? Whether it’s repairing minor issues, putting on a fresh coat of paint, or rearranging furniture, you can make your living environment much more satisfying with a little sweat equity.

Another thing you can do is to thoroughly declutter and deep clean your home. Turning your living environment into a fresh and vibrant space can do wonders for ousting the negative energy that leads to arguing, complaining and other such consequences.

2. Being Outdoors

No-one can be stuck indoors for weeks on end without experiencing a negative impact on their health and well-being. Take advantage of any extra time you have by going outdoors. Spending time in nature comes with plenty of physical, mental and emotional health benefits.

And there are plenty of things you can do outside too, whether you’re sticking close to home or going out into the world. Create a simple outdoor living area at home, take walks around your neighbourhood, go picnicking at the local park or go hiking at a nearby trail—just enjoy yourself and breathe in the benefits.

3. Starting a Hobby

Having hobbies can also go a long way in keeping you happy and healthy. Consider rekindling a hobby from your youth or trying something completely new. For instance, gardening is known to yield a plethora of health benefits and it also gives you an excuse to spend time in nature. If you live in a city, you can still pick up the hobby by creating an urban garden in your apartment or on a rooftop.

 4. Shifting Careers

This is a change that many people have been forced to make—though it can also be a great time to willingly make it if you’re unhappy in your current job. Assess where you are in your career and whether or not you like where it’s headed. If you like your job but would like more flexibility and freedom, ask your boss about long-term remote work opportunities. If you want to do something completely different, take this time to come up with a plan for how you can get started on a new career path.

5. Staying Local

Local businesses around the world need their loyal customers now more than ever. Restrictions brought about by the pandemic are crushing small companies everywhere, so this is the time to support those in your city and neighbourhood. Remember the essential role that local businesses play in providing employment and giving back to communities and find ways to give them your business.

6. Working Out More

There has never been a better time to develop new, healthy habits in your life. Creating an outdoor living space to enjoy time with loved ones is a great way to start. But another change you can make that will have a significant impact on your health and well-being is to find an exercise routine that you enjoy. There are many ways to exercise at or close to home with minimal equipment required, such as running, HIIT and yoga. For example, if you choose to try yoga, all you need is some comfortable clothing, a yoga mat and maybe a prop or two.

There’s no question that the COVID-19 pandemic has come with a lot of negative implications. However, it can also be used as an opportunity to improve your health and well-being. Along with trying the changes listed here, keep thinking of ways that you can work self-care and other healthy habits into your new everyday routine.
